Synopsis


This research program, called CRABNET PLUS, aims at extending the experimental set-up developed within last-year funded project CRABNET. It aims therefore at extending the CRABNET approach of Automatic Network Recognition of technologies that operate under the coexistence principle, that is sharing frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum, typically in the ISM bands. While the Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform kit built up in the framework of the CRABNET research program was aimed at integrating and analyzing captured data from different wireless technologies in the ISM bands, in an open-source, low-cost SDR platform, such as the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP), the proposed extension essentially develops along two dimensions: 1. to build a more complex and complete experimental set-up, by adding a third SDR platform in order to have the possibility of simulating a network of nodes and consequently also experiment the operation of relay nodes; 2. to extend the concept of automatic network recognition to Ultra Wide Band (UWB) networks, in particular UWB based IEEE 802.15.4a nodes. This specific format of UWB signals has its own peculiarities due to the impulsive nature of the transmission. CRABNET PLUS forms the natural evolution and extension of the CRABNET platform and offers the opportunity for consolidating results achieved with last-year CRABNET financial support.
